Love Wisdom

Get Wisdom…Do not forsake her and she will keep you. Love her and she will guard you. Prize her highly and she will embrace you – if you embrace her. Prov. 4:5-6

The Midwest has been blanketed with over a foot of snow. The snow keeps falling, kids are home and we get to enjoy the awesome beauty surrounding us. God individualized each snowflake. Each unique in its own beauty as they glisten and fall, yet as they layer one upon the other they create a blanket of serene whiteness. This reminds me of God’s nuggets of wisdom that He lovingly shares with me. Each unique and individually given to inspire, guard and guide me. Layer upon layers of truth solidifying God’s love for me.

I recently went to a wedding where the Pastor challenged the married couples to renew our vows. I fell under conviction as I listened to the young couple exchange their promise of devotion.  After over a decade of marriage, our love has been layered with many memories, challenges and kids. At times I get caught up with the demands of my household and forget putting my spouse first. Only through God’s wisdom, I gain perspective on how to love. To embrace, guard and keep His wisdom – determines how much I value it.

Embrace
Everyday I embrace my kiddos with warm hugs and kisses. In doing so, I communicate an affection. I provide a place of warmth and belonging. They know mom is there to provide comfort and security.  To embrace wisdom means I first utilized it in my daily choices, only then I will feel it’s security in my life. God promises He will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is fixed on Him. (Is. 26:3) To embrace wisdom is to blanket my soul with God’s word. It is there I find my place of rest – in His arms.

Guard
Guard your heart for out of it flows the issues of life. (Prov. 4:23) This week the world will try to help me define love, but true, unconditional love is continually on display in God’s wisdom. Loving wisdom helps to guard my wayward heart. Choosing love over hate. Choosing compassion over complacency. Choosing joy over sorrow. Choosing wisdom over folly. The security of God’s wisdom will help guard and protect myself and my loved ones.

Value
The valuation for wisdom is far too abstract. There is no dollar amount that can be set. God gives it freely but it’s value is immeasurable. To prize something means it is invaluable. It can not be bought or traded. It is something that is stored up and treasured.  Wisdom is choosing to value love above places, things or ideals. Wisdom is knowing God and His abiding love for me and valuing its impact on how I live, move, breathe and have my being.

Love Wisdom
Embrace. Guard. Value.

How can I embrace God’s wisdom, guard and value it in my everyday life?

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
