Fill Up

The Lord is my portion; I promise to keep your words. Psalm 119:57

Yesterday my daughter was starving after her soccer practice. She ate a healthy dinner and kept asking for more. I was worried that she was taking in too much and I told her to let her stomach get full before she ate any more.

There is a tendency in our present culture to overindulge. The challenge is to have  proper portion control – screen time, down time, meal time, work time, and family time. I often pray that my husband and I are balanced in these areas as we are constantly modeling this for our kids in good ways and bad.

The only area where I don’t really struggle with overindulging is my quiet time. It is there that I need to have more time to really eat and allow my stomach to get full. To get the portion I need for the day and to continually feast on it in meditation. The moments I need it most will reveal itself throughout my day.

Today, I needed more grace. Tomorrow, I may need more patience. I love the commercial where the guy is sitting at the table drinking his orange juice and there is a crowd of people (presumably those he will interact with that day) telling him the troubles he will face that day. The guy just smiles and calmly declares he can face it all just by drinking his orange juice.  This is funny, but not realistic. However God does know what I will face today and what I need to eat and drink from His word. He is my portion – the Bread of Life I need today. His word is potent, powerful and enough for me to get truly full! When I overindulge in God – He brings balance and perspective to my life.

Fill Up
Healthy. Balanced. Perspective.

What am I being filled up with today?
