Better than Honey

More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.Psalm 19:10

Recently, I learned from my sister-in-law, that there are different types of honey made in Indonesia. This honey takes on the flavor of the flower from which the bee eats, such as mango and coffee. What glorious tastes to add to my peanut butter and honey sandwiches!

In the book of Ezekiel, there was another type of honey that was produced from a very different source. When Ezekiel ate the scroll that the Lord gave him it was as sweet as honey in his mouth. The scroll was the words that God gave him to know the law and be able to explain it to God’s people.

Throughout history, honey has been used as a natural sweetener to make things more palatable. David likens God’s Word as being sweeter than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. God’s Word is better than honey – it not only adds flavor and perspective to our lives, it also leaves a craving for more.

Throughout the Psalms, David focuses on meditating and feasting on the Word of God. The Psalms are always my ‘go to’ book for nourishment.  Several times he equates God’s Word to the sweetness of honey…even sweeter. There is no artificial flavoring here. It is pure and complete flavor for the soul. A satisfaction that can only be discovered upon tasting.

Better than Honey
Distinct. Flavorful. Craving. Satisfied.

Psalms 119

What ‘Flavors of honey’ do I receive from the word?
